Essential makeup brushes
Hi there.
I feel like brushes are a huge part of makeup, Without the right tools you can spend a lot on certain products and get no good out of them. Because of that, brushes aren't cheap, at all actually. If you don't own a huge brush collection, that's okay, you don't need one. Obviously different people need different brushes, for example if you're an eyeshadow lover you definitely need more eyeshadow brushes than let's say a person who never or rarely uses eyeshadow. I'm not saying that you can't do makeup without brushes, because there were times when I had no brushes and still wore some makeup and if that works for you and you feel good like that, good for you, you can keep it like that. But if you were to decide that it's time to invest into some brushes and you weren't sure, which are the absolute must, I hope this post will help you. Don't forget that these are only my options and it's completely okay to disagree with them as we're all different. Also, if you want a set of different brushes (which I think is the best way to go when you're starting off, because you get a bit of everything and eventually see what you love or hate), bh cosmetics do really nice sets for really good prices. I'm already too long so let's just get started!
Starting off with a foundation, I know a lot of people that apply it with their hands and for some foundations, that works really well, but for others it just doesn't, at least not with me. So I prefer using brushes, because they leave me with an amaaaaazzziiing finish. There are many different ways to apply your foundations with a brush – as in there are many different brushes. The first one, my favorite one is with a flat top kabuki brush like this.
An alternative is this one, which is from Sigma and it is their angled flat top kabuki brush F88. I was originally going for their F80, but it is sold out very often and I was done waiting, so I purchased this one. It's more of an expensive brush ( around 20€), but it's a really good one, for some areas of the face even better than the previous one, because the angle of the brush makes it easier to reach them.
Next you need to set your under eye concealer (as I've mentioned, I normally blend out the concealer with a sponge or with my fingers), for which I love using my Real Techniques setting brush. It's small and it's soft and it just gets the job done. It's also a good brush to use for highlighter – two in one!
To set the rest of my face (which I do, because otherwise my
makeup doesn't stay put since my skin can get a bit oily, but I don't want any
added coverage, I just want it to last), I use this brush which I got in a
different set from bh cosmetics.
This brush is a super multi-tasking one. You can use it for
blush, contour or bronzing. Normally I use a separate brush for blush, but I
rarely ever even wear blush to be honest. For a more precise contour I always
use just the side of the brush, so I don't get the powder all over my face and
look muddy.
Just three more brushes to go!
The next one is a tiny angled brush. This is an amazing
tool, you can use it for your eyeshadow, it's the best thing (in my opinion) to
use for gel liner but the thing I use it for the most are eyebrows. Because
it's angled, it really is a piece of cake to just go over your natural brow
shape and fill it in a bit. I got mine in a bh cosmetics brush set.
This is a flat eyeshadow brush and basically it is used to
pack the color on the lid. If you're every doing an eyeshadow look, this brush
and the next one are the absolute must.
The last brush is this blending brush, it is fom Sigma and
it's ther F35, I think it's about 13 or 14€. It's not cheap (because it's
Sigma), but it is an amazing blending brush, it makes the job sooooooo much
easier and blending is the most important part of wearing an eyeshadow so I
think a good blending brush, if you are into eyeshadow, is a must.
Love always,
T.
